ATV Registration

When riding in New York, be sure your ATV is properly registered and insured.

New York honors out-of-state registrations. If your home state does not require ATVs to be registered, you must obtain a New York State registration before operating your ATV in this state.

Registration requirements do not apply to ATVs used only for agricultural purposes or for snow plowing (but not for-hire plowing).

Support Lewis County by mailing your registration to the following address. To obtain registration, download the Registration Form. For more information:

NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles
PO Box 232
7660 N. State St.
Lowville, NY 13367
(315) 376-5332

Proof of insurance must be provided upon request of a judge, the police, or a person claiming to have suffered injury or property damage from your operation of the ATV.

A helpful guide to the basics of ATV operation has been created by the Department of Motor Vehicles. You can download a copy at http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c29.htm or pick one up at the chamber office.

You will find much helpful information and current events on the New York State Off-Highway Recreational Vehicle Association (NYSORVA) site.
